raw video of a brazil church service from Sunday Morning
Programme website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b047d010 The Sao Francisco Church in Salvador is one of Brazil's oldest colonial churches, which is done out in baroque style where all the surfaces are covered with golden woodwork and paintings.
05 November 2012 Tens of thousands of people have attended the opening of what is being considered the biggest Catholic church in Brazil, The Mother of God Sanctuary, in Sao Paulo. Brazil is the most populated Catholic country in the world, but the Church has been struggling to maintain its influence, while neo-Pentecostalism continues to grow.
It looks like an airport hangar and it sounds like a rock concert. Thousands have packed into a megachurch on the periphery of Sao Paulo for one of Father Marcelo Rossi's Thursday night masses. The Roman Catholic priest belts out some of his hit songs before walking up to the altar. The parishioners join in, waving their arms in the air. "Lord, I know you love me," sings a young woman in braces. Father Marcelo, 46, was a personal trainer before he joined the clergy. Now he is at the forefront of a Brazilian movement known as the Charismatic Catholic Renovation trying to invigorate the Church and lure new and old followers back to the fold. They use music and sermons aimed at trying to secure success on Earth as well as in the after-life, methods more often associated with Latin Americ...

Brazil's biggest Catholic church was inaugurated in Sao Paulo on Friday - the 'Mae de Deus' (Mother of God) sanctuary. The enormous, still unfinished structure was designed by the Japanese-Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake who worked on the project for free. It covers 30 thousand square metres- enough space for 100 thousand worshippers. It's the brainchild of Father Marcelo Rossi - who paid for it with the profits of his media success - a household name in Brazil, he has sold 9 million books and 12 million CDs of prayers. BRAZIL — A church wedding in Brazil was thrown into complete chaos after a gate-crasher opened fire on guests during the ceremony. 7 Segundos reports that the horrifying incident happened on Monday afternoon, as a wedding took place inside a church in the Alagoas municipality of Limoeiro de Anadia. A video recording the ceremony shows the bride and groom marching down the aisle, unaware that a casually-dressed man was following behind. The man, identified as Umberto Ferreira dos Santos, made his way to a pew, and reportedly called out to groomsman Edmilson Bezerra da Silva, 37. Reaching for a gun, he then blasted da Silva and his father, 62-year-old Cicero Barbosa da Silva, before walking away. The two men were injured but are now recovering. A woman, believed to be the groomsman’s wife...

"High Mass"? A drone flies through the church of São Geraldo Majella (St. Gerard Majella) in Sorocaba, Brazil, carrying and dropping off a monstrance with what is supposed to be the Blessed Sacrament, the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. This parish is part of the Novus Ordo "Archdiocese" of Sorocaba and staffed by Redemptorist "priests". Source: https://www.facebook.com/lucianinho.daimaculada.5/videos/156834445142756/
From the favelas (slums) of Rio de Janeiro to television screens across the nation, the Pentecostal church is growing in numbers and influence in Brazil, and more than doubled between 1980 and 2000. The Pentecostal growth in Brazil comes as the worlds largest Catholic community shrinks, according to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. Pentecostals often view their churchgoing experience as more personal and social activism — particularly outreach to the poor — as more common. Producer Bryan Myers and correspondent Edie Magnus report from the Assembly of God New Zion church in Rio de Janeiro. Today was the primary program in Salvador. Our kids were given their primary lines in Portuguese and had just over a week to memorize them. They were nervous and excited to speak over the pulpit. The kids got big hugs and congratulations from the ward members for their courage. I love how eager they are to learn and how fast they’re getting the language. We have been in Brazil for 6 weeks now. Video 12
The pope is enjoying a rapturous welcome in Brazil, a country with more Catholics than anywhere else on earth. The excitement is real, but the number of Brazilians who actually go to mass is in rapid decline and it's the Protestant, evangelical strain of Christianity that's thriving. However, Rome is fighting back, not just with the pope but with "celebrity" priests like Father Marcelo Rossi. France 24's Nicolas Ransom caught up with some of his followers. By Nicolas RANSOM An exclusive in-depth report from a FRANCE24 correspondent, followed by comment and analysis with the author and the anchor in the newsroom in Paris. Take a tour of Ouro Preto's Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Ouro Preto, Brazil -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. On a hilltop in Ouro Preto, Brazil, is the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi. This small, but elaborate church is one of the town's most beautiful fixtures. Construction of the church began in 1766, by architect Antonio Francisco Lisboa in the Rococo style of architecture. This man was a sculptor as well as an architect and designed both the structures facade and interior decor. The double towers of the Church of Saint Francis and its roof makes it a unique and stunning sight. The front entrance to the church depicts Saint Francis accepting the holy stigmata from God.
Sorry about the audio, they wouldn't let us record outside the church so we had to do it on the sly, hence why it looks a little peak, but half way through it fixes up :) Subscribe and follow me on the following http://www.DawahMan.com http://www.twitter.com/imranibnmansur http://www.facebook.com/dawahman

On The Listening Post this week: Two years of political turmoil have revealed the depths of institutional corruption, political opportunism and - crucially - media power in Brazil. Over the past two years, Latin America's largest nation has witnessed one political convulsion after another, with former President Dilma Rousseff ousted from power a year ago, and her replacement Michel Temer now facing similar pressure. Coverage of the turmoil by Brazil's media, the majority of which is owned by historically powerful segments of society, has generated widespread accusations of foul play. The country's largest media house, Globo, is seen by many as having played the role of zealous activist rather than objective observer in its rolling, positive coverage of the anti-Dilma protests of 2016, and...
